Cognitive Behavioral Lab: Biophilia App

At the Cognitive Behavioral Lab at NC State University, I designed an Ecological Momentary Assessment app to assist in collecting data for Vanessa Woods’ Biophilia Reactivity Hypothesis.

I had a great time working and learning under Dr. Knuth and Vanessa Woods while they stirred up debate in the scientific community about Biophilia for Vanessa’s PhD thesis. That work consisted of implementing the Biophilia Quotient on Qualtrics, the resulting data analysis, working with eye-tracking and cortisol data, and ultimately designing an app to collect further data about subjects in natural environments as my capstone project at NC State.
The app was designed using a combination of the Double Diamond design process and Enterprise Design Thinking. Its purpose is to conduct Ecological Momentary Assessments— a new type of real-time sampling of a subject’s experiences, moods, and behaviors.

Alongside the prototypes and final design, this process also yielded a detailed case study.
